I may update this, as I am still getting to know the device.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Behringer ADA8200 is to make use of an audio interface's ADAT input, which is commonly not used yet useful. In fact, with the Behringer ADA8200, you can send 8 new inputs through one ADAT input. That being said, this isn't standalone equipment, and will not be an audio interface by itself.

STORY
Recently I've been looking to expand the input count for my Focusrite 18i20 via ADAT. I was originally going to go for Focusrite's own ADAT interface, the OctoPre MkII. However, it is $600, and I didn't want to spend that much money just for 8 additional inputs, being a jobless teen. Knowing they just bought out the well-known microphone pre-amp company Midas, I checked out Behringer's cheaper option, the ADA8200. At only $200, it was way cheaper then any of the other options. Beyond that, the Midas preamps seemed promising. So I placed an order at Musician's Friend.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
It shipped without about five days. Unboxing the thing, I couldn't help but notice it looked nice, and beyond that, professional. At the same time it had a simple design; 8 XLR inputs, 8 1/4" inputs, some LED indicators, and a phantom power switch all on the front. The back was even more simple; 8 XLR outputs for each input, an ADAT input/output, and a word clock syncer that I do not understand yet. Using a trusty BlueRigger ADAT cable I got from Amazon, I plugged one side into the ADA8200 and the other into my Focusrite, and turned the power on.

FUNCTIONALITY
I had no issues setting it up. The first thing I did was make a voice recording with the ADA8200, and then a voice recording with the Focusrite, and compared them. Not much difference. The ADA8200 seemed slightly more responsive, but slightly clearer. Next, I plugged in my drum microphones, and made a drum recording. The ADA8200 handled them a little better than my expectations. I am still getting a feel for the ADA8200, but right now it seems good.

CONCLUSION
When buying this interface, you won't feel like you spent $200. It was comparable to my $500 Focusrite interface, in terms of sound and functionality. That being said, even if you can afford a Focusrite OctoPre MkII, maybe give this a shot and save that $300, especially if you're like me and tight on money. There is a good reason the ADA8200 is the best-selling Behringer product.
