First topic message reminder :

If anyone is wondering, Windows 8 was originally intended for mobile devices but Microsoft had to develop the 8.1 patch because many people still use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. Unfortunately there's going to be a time when support for win7 (which is what I'm using at present) will end, but I'm hoping that this doesn't happen anytime soon.

What are talking about mtvfan? Most people actually like features like that, even if they give up privacy, almost all of them are able to be disabled. Smile

doing anything bad or stupid.

in many cases, upgrading one's computer operating system is a good idea (due to the fact that support for an older OS gets discontinued).

they only disabled tech support because they're forcing everyone to upgrade to windows 10, and it's a pain

Well they aren't 'forcing' anyone per say, but it is their greatest hope that by offering  a free one year upgrade and then I guess ending the tech support cycle early, that people will upgrade to it. I admit Windows 10 looks to be alright, however, they have not gotten the sound drivers up yet and stereo mix doesn't work yet on it, this is why I bought a windows 8.1 computer and opted not to do the free upgrade, I need stereo mix for djing. Neutral

Whether or not you believe it, they are NOT forcing anyone to anything. Forcing would be them just stright out taking windows 8 out of the picture completely and just manually upgrading everyone, they want people to upgrade, one way they plan to accomplish this is by bugging folks to death to where they give in. Being persisent and persuading is NOT forcing.

Besides, one can actually hide that pop up box and prevent it from springing up everytime. I did on on my laptop and I no longer get the pop up. The actual icon is still there when you click to view expanded notifications, but the pop up box will stop coming up. You can hide it, you just got to know how to do it and know how to control your notifications Wink.

I am still on Windows Vista I know I will be getting a new laptop but close to the end of March that my Uncle will help me get hooked up and everything else. Also be getting Windows 10 along with the latest version of Microsoft Office too. But I haven't got anything telling me to upgrade to Windows 10 but it could be since I am still on Windows Vista and my computer won't work right with being on Windows 10. But I know it will take me a while to figure out Windows 10 along with the latest edition of Microsoft Office. I was still confused looking at Windows 8 but still that is a older version of Windows I have seen. But I will have to get used to it when I do get it Smile

As I said, you can hide the notification so it stops appearing on start up everytime.

Yeah your computer has to be running either on windows 7 or 8 and meet certain eligiblity requirements, in order for you to be offered the free upgrade.

it's a free upgrade because Microsoft wants everyone on windows 10 to get their personal, private info, it's a real pain, because it's no longer an optional update, but there is a way to switch back, although it's much better if they just left everyone alone.

It is still an optional switch if your computer is windows 7 or 8. As I was saying before, you can hide that annoying pop up box and prevent it from sending you notifications on start up.

no it's not, it's an update you will get directly from Microsoft with your Automatic updates, but you can switch back to windows 7 if you don't like the windows 10 update

We will have no choice but to start using windows 10 by 2020 actually, as Microsoft will stop supporting windows 7 in this year.

No no, thats not true, you will only start recieving it in an auto update if you clicked the pop up and reserved your upgrade. Wink

If you didn't do that, it will not send Windows 10 updates to your computer.

You could still use Windows 7 even though the support for it has run out, just better hope you pc doesn't crash or anything Very Happy.

I would say it would he safe to upgrade to Windows 10 by 2020, as I sure all the kinks and bugs in the software will have been worked out Razz.

Yes, but if you didn't click the box for the free upgrade, it will not upgrade you.
