Re: Train sets!
the maker has decided that the line of this product has become redundant, as is therefore no longer needed, so they have chosen to discontinue production on it, which is disappointing, but there is little that those in the model railroading world can do except look for alternate suppliers for products of this nature

Re: Train sets!
These are no longer made by a company called Walthers, but other model makers may still have them.

only a select few still make them, but it is down to 2 makers, as Walthers is now out of this game

They weren't making money on it?

Well I suppose, it is due to the fact that it is common and everyone who wants one has one.
Re: Train sets!
no, there is so little of them now as it is not the norm for hauling containers, most containers are double stacked in this day and age, so the 89 foot All purpose flatcar has become redundant, and is being phased out of service. last time i checked the only "all purpose" car in modern service is an "All purpose" well car.

Re: Train sets!
Unfortunately most big companies like walthers have a considerably capitalist attitude towards their products, so I think that they stopped making this type of model railcar as a result of dismal sales.

It would not be surprising if that were true.
Re: Train sets!
it is more like the case as i have said it, Walthers, and others, will continue making the equipment if the equipment is popular, if it is not, they will discontinue it to focus on the popular models. But the sales aspect of things may also be possible.

Re: Train sets!
it's painted with to brighten it up and to help seal the walls and floor from all the damp and mildew. because the paint used is also a sealant,
