Re: Train sets!
1mtvfan & myself received a footbridge kit as a birthday/Christmas gift this year, but it hasn't been assembled as yet. I also have a new steam locomotive and cold can that need to be added to the setup right now, but a frustrating and ongoing disagreement/feud between myself and 1mtvfan (the details of which will not be discussed on here) is keeping me from attending the operating sessions at present. If anyone is wondering, the following link will help explain things regarding the footbridge situation:

oh yeah, that footbridge, i'd forgotten about that, the issue however, which will not be discussed, is
easily solved, and is ongoing because of an immature difference of opinion

now what's left is finishing helix risers, more bench work to support the last half of the upper

as well as wire in a jumper wire to the double crossover switch on the 2nd level to get some power past a certain point.

now all that is left is to complete the helix, add more bench work for the upper reverse loop, add a 3rd drop bridge to the upper reverse loop as well as roadbed and tracks, as well as figure out why the outer throttle is not powering the upper level. so the progress is going very well.

Re: Train sets!
well yes, but the progress has stalled again, because an electrical issue has come up, so that has to be tracked down, and then repaired

An electrical issue? What kind of electrical issue?
Re: Train sets!
just a case of the power not getting to where it needs to go, some wires may be broken or unable to carry the current, but only way to know is to track it down step by step

Re: Train sets!
For some unknown reason, one of the main track lines has lost all power and this problem has to be tracked down before it can be fixed. However, the search continues as of 21:00hrs (9:00pm) last night.

Re: Train sets!
update,
electrical issues continue, looks like a controller block has burned out on one side, so that is the reason for the inside track ceasing function, so all we can do is sit it out and wait for a new controller block to arrive for replacement.

further update,
the inside track power issue will be solved tonight, and a 3rd control box will be added for the phase 3 sections, which means they will not have to be added later.

Re: Train sets!
The problem has been identified as a burned out selector switch (which is about 50 years old). Unfortunately this means a lot more electrical work but no trains will be operating until this work has been completed.

Re: Train sets!
the problem has already been mentioned, it is the one side of the Selector control box, but this was bound to happen as the 2 independent lines were wired into this 50 year old selector box, so it was only a matter of time before it burned out, it is a wonder the whole box didn't burn out completely, but it is also a wonder it didn't burn out when it was first installed over 3 years ago.

That is cool, glad you guys found the issue. That sounds like a really good selector box if it worked over 50 years .

Re: Train sets!
well it's been with us since our dad had it back when he was a kid, and it was going to burn out at some point, that sort of thing can only handle so much for so long, and it was 50 years old when it was installed 3 years ago, so once it goes, all that can be done is replace it.

Re: Train sets!
update, electrical issues continue, but the new controller and selector boxes are in place. the controller box however is only there because it is not compatible with the one that burned out. so that is now ruled out, all that is left to do is to rewire the power area from scratch with new wires and it is hoped that this will solve the problem, and get the construction of part 2 phase 3 back on the priorities list.

Re: Train sets!
the now defective and no longer usable selector box was made by a model company called Atlas (which still exists by the way), and accessories from this company are of very high quality. Unfortunately I have no idea if the locomotives and rolling stock produced from this company are of equal quality, but I for one will not be speaking down about anything.

Re: Train sets!
electrical issues are resolved, building part 2 of phase 3 is back on the top of the priorities list, followed by drop bridge No 3, it would be a lot better if TTfan came by the LVCRR, but things are what they are at this point, and it cannot nor will it be forced on him, also, my Tablet sadly will not fit under the upper phase 2 bench work standing up, and will not pass by the supports when turned sideways without snagging, so there is nothing i can do about that right now, but i will keep trying to see what works best, but since there isn't much to see on that part of the layout i don't think it needs to be seen anyway. still more, a new [Only mods are allowed to see this link] follows

You were able to upload pictures using the on site uploader without any issuee? I only ask because there is apparently supposed to be some techinial issue with serverside that is supposed to make it impossible to upload images via the on site editor. It seems, however, that maybe the issues are not effectng BD?
Anyway, enjoy your vacation from BD 1mtvfan and we will see you in 2 weeks. Don't worry, the rest of us staff will hold down the fort while your away.
