Cool what kind of scenery? Also that turntable is more simple looking then I thought it would.1mtvfan wrote:we have some landscaping to do on the elevations to hide the supports as best we can, as well as add some parts to close in the gaps. and the turntable was another issue
Re: Train sets!
the turntable looks simple, but it was a task and a half to assemble it, and we plan on adding some rock forms or something of that nature to hide the supports of the 2nd level, and a few tunnel portals along with some retaining walls where possible

Re: Train sets!
the electrical is working fine, but the power still has to be connected to parts of the 2nd level

Yes I knew what the Flatcar looked like, but thanks and yes it can serve many purposes! I like the old locomative in the background of the last photo!
The second layer is coming really well it seems. The train yard sounds cool as well!
Re: Train sets!
that is what an "all purpose" flatcar is for, and is a new locomotive built to look old, it is a "big boy" type steam locomotive, and getting the electrical to the 2nd level is not a large problem, but it is a bit of a pain to run wires, because the wires often do not reach the right spots, or they will break when we try to bend or stretch them to reach.

Re: Train sets!
that area is meant to represent a locomotive roundhouse, but the two multicolored locomotives are 1:87 scale representations of a General Electric C44-9W and aren't entirely appropriate for the era (this diesel-electric locomotive first appeared in 1993). As for the question you asked Brandon, this link will help answer it:

Re: Train sets!
the Big Boy is a type of steam locomotive, and it is the last of the "articulated" locomotives ever built. which makes it very unique.

Ah cool! So was it a good engine in real life?1mtvfan wrote:the Big Boy is a type of steam locomotive, and it is the last of the "articulated" locomotives ever built. which makes it very unique.
Re: Train sets!
the Union pacific RR thought so, so much so that they are restoring one their old Big boy types to working service

Re: Train sets!
no, it was for freight service, but the restored one will be for promotional use, which means it will be pulling passengers on excursions

Re: Train sets!
That is cool!
After seeing this engine in a train video at a young age I spent years trying track down a model train engine (HO Scale) of it. I saved up all my the little scraps of money I made/got in a little box for when I found it, finally after many many years of searching and going to train store after train store (apparently it is the hardest damn train to find i history) I found it in a train magazine. My grandfather ordered it for me with his credit card and I gave him the 100 $ back with my life savings. This is 100 freaking dollar nearly impossible to find train engine we are talking here, when I finally got it, it was virtually the only operational train in my entire set (yeah I tended to break a lot of them by going to fast around turns or carelessly putting them back in the box). So here is (one that is similar as I do not remmeber the paint skim in mine) a photo pulled off google images of my pride and joy and the train model I spent nearly a decade tracking down:
The train engine is called Genesis and it is the state of the art train of the 21st century and it is thw standard passenger train engine today.

Re: Train sets!
yes, the Amtrak uses the genesis, but if your grandfather bought you something like that, it would be best to keep it as pristine as possible, gifts from family are the most precious gifts of all, as you will never get another from them once they are gone. RIP grandparents, you are always loved and Remembered.

Re: Train sets!
No it was not a gift, I paid for it, he just bought it because I was and still am to young for a credit card. I gave him the money back to pay for it though. Yes I did take careful measures not break that one, I took great care of it... but now everything with my train set is in a storage unit (I do not the name or where it is other then I know it is New Jersey) that belongs tl my dad. I got to pester him into sending the key and name so I can rescue them.
Re: Train sets!
well it still is a gift in a way, but look after it, as it may be the only time your grandfather ever gave you a gift like that

Re: Train sets!
then by all means go and rescue it, but let's hope it still works, sometimes when things like that are stored for a long time, they do not always work. and i am still working on trying to get some videos of the entire setup onto the BD even if it's taking a lot of time
